Doyle Boston News:

2007 Season Recap

03/30/2008 - The 2007 season began with Key West Race Week. I sailed in the Mumm 30 class. It was not a good result. We discovered why when we pulled the boat... the rudder bearings were falling out of the boat.

St. Pete's NOOD Regatta - always a fun event with lots of competition and usually warm weather. 2007 was cold in St. Pete's, but the competition was HOT. We sailed in the S2 7.9 and U20 class. Spike and crew aboard Frequent Flyer sailed a great series winning the event with Rebel and Magic pressing them hard to finish 2nd and 3rd. My S2 7.9 braved the frigid weather up north.

The U20 Class had 14 boats racing; 10 from the frigid north. We managed to put in a good regatta finishing on top with fellow Canadian Van Sheppard 2nd and Don Corey in 3rd. We've worked very hard in this class to develop our Racing Sails. Boat camaraderie runs high at all events with Goombay Smashes at the tailgate parties.

Annapolis NOOD - S2 7.9 Class had 9 boats entered with Fleck, Flechsig, Picknell finishing 1st, 2nd and third.

As most of you know I sail in various classes including the Mumm 30 aboard Black Seal with the Youngs. Annapolis was a great regatta for us. We sailed consistently winning the event with Barking Mad and Turbo Duck 2nd and 3rd.

Detroit NOOD - To gear up for the Beneteau 36.2 Nationals later in the season I sailed with Claudio Martin and Crew on Critical out of London, Ontario. This is early in the season for our northern boats. We had some great racing with 14 boats in our fleet. We didn't win, but had a good event and finished in 4th place with 2, 4, 3, 9.

C&C 35 - Another OD class in Detroit - This class has been around since the late 60's. Jim Bennett, one of our customers from the Sarnia Yacht Club finished a very respectable 3rd. Jim is a newby to the class having purchased his boat just three years ago.

Level 126 - Rebel, Jim Brown / Chuck Williams, Ruby, MI, USA - 2nd

U20 - I loaned my U20 to Eric Vigrass and crew and he did keep her 'Honour' finishing 1st. Jim Pearson sailing his new U20 finished 2nd. The Hines family finished 3rd.

Chicago NOOD - I switched classes again to sail aboard Farr 40 Inferno. We finished 4th.

In the PH-1 class Tyrant a Nelson Marek 43C won with 1-4-2-2

S2 7.9 - in an 8 boat fleet 2 through 4th place boats all sporting out proven 7.9 sails.
