07/25-27/2003Harbor
Springs, MI -Sailing the J120 Nationals with winds
consistently averaging 20-25 knots provided an exciting ride
on a boat that averaged 8 knots upwind and 12 knots downwind,
powered by the Doyle D4 sails. The competition throughout
the weekend was challenging.
When the sailing got close and speed was a necessity
the shape of the D4 sails held true, assisting us to pull
away from the competition time and time again. On some starts
we found ourselves positioned to leeward of our competition,
yet we were able to power out from this position to favorably
point ourselves into the upwind leg.
Sailing upwind we were able to maintain our
speed and pointing ability by consistently watching the sail
trim, knowing the sails and boat would respond immediately.
Downwind, our Maple leaf Flag was a dream to watch. The Boston
loft did an outstanding job in designing this spinnaker. It
was a thrill to be surfing in a National regatta outpacing
our competitors.
Winning the J120 Nationals with 3-year old D4
sails, that have been raced extensively, speaks volumes for
the quality of craftsmanship and material the Doyle Boston
loft constructed for us in 2001.
We want to thank your entire loft for your expertise,
but also for your consistent racing encouragement and service.
It’s been beyond our expectations.
